Sony is calling the PSP the new walkman of this century. Why? Because Sony is putting so much into such a little thing. First of all, the graphics of the PSP are capable of PS2 graphics. For now, they look more like first generation PS2 games, but as time goes by, expect the graphics to become better as well. Also, aside from playing games you will be able to listen to tunes with a MP3 player and watch movies. While all of this may sound neat, technology of this kind will also absorb a lot of energy. It is suspected that games will be able to last around 8 to 10 hours while movies will only last for about 2.5 hours. These are all estimates right now and if these numbers shrink, PSP won't be looking as good as it did before.
The first thing you will notice about the DS Lite is obviously the two screens. The top one will be a basic lcd screen while the bottom will be a touch screen. Nintendo is hoping that most games will take advantage of this and making gaming on the go much more fun. Aside from this, the graphics for DS Lite are not on par with PSP. From what we have seen, the DS Lite is able to play games on a level higher than N64. From the screens, the games are also a bit blocky and so PSP is definitely better with graphics. Finally, the DS Lite does not have the same battery problem as PSP does. At the moment, Nintendo has reported that the batteries of DS Lite should be just like the GBA SP's batteries. This means that you will be seeing 10 to 12 hours of gameplay each time with the battery pack.
Verdict: PSP: Although the DS Lite does have a longer battery power, the PSP can just do so much more. The graphics of the PSP beat out the DS Lite and being able to watch movies and listen to music is a plus as well.

Design
From the beginning, the PSP looked magnificent. It is less than an inch thick, but rather wide because of the huge screen. Of course I am not complaining with the screen. The product is black and packs a lot of power. It is almost certain that this will be the final design or at least close to the final PSP. Currently Video Gaming Escape has no major complaints with the PSP.
When Nintendo unveiled the DS Lite at this years E3, it was not what we expected, to say at the very least. Since the DS Lite has two screens, Nintendo decided to make a clamshell type design. This was a good idea, but when they actually made the design, it was quite ugly. The design was very blocky to begin with and when closed it just looked like a block. Thankfully, a few weeks ago Nintendo took in feedback and complaints from everyone and made the DS Lite look more sleek and appropriate. The DS Lite still utilized the clam shell design, but this time it was much thinner and not as boxy.
In 2006, the Nintendo DS Lite came upon us. Now Nintendo has released the very sexy and trendy Nintendo DS Lite, we have a picture below for you to adore. Although this does make the Nintendo DS Lite look very cool and compact, the Sony PSP, while being bulky still has that sexy and mature appeal to it.
Verdict: PSP: Although the preference for a design is anyone's choice, we feel that the PSP looks more mainstream and will attract the casual gamer more than the DS Lite. This decision is only slightly towards the PSP though.
