However, as of April 2006, the console has been officially named the Nintendo Wii.
Why is the console named Wii?
Nintendo has said that although they could simply improve the graphics and hardware of their next console, they want to make something special and well, revolutionary. That was when it was still called the Nintendo Revolution, a fitting name for the console. Now it is many a times referred to a part of the male anatomy, a male's Wii.

Nintendo has given the DS online capabilities, so we hope they will be wise and include online gaming for the Wii. So you can communicate with friends with the Wii like the DS, but the console will be on 24/7.
