Xbox 360 Controller

The Xbox 360 controller was revealed in the spring of 2005 and was received with much praise.  The controller’s basic design is based off of the original Xbox Type-S controller.  The controller fits comfortably in ones hand and its additional changes from the old Xbox controller make things even easier for the user.

The first and most immediate improvement of the Xbox 360 controller is its weight.  The controller is much lighter than the already feather-like Controller S.

Now there is a ‘Home’ button at the center of the controller.  This provides an easy way to turn on the Xbox 360 from the comfort of your couch.  The other major change is moving the small and annoying black and white buttons to the shoulders of the controller.  This creates a controller that is similar in shape to the Controller S, but similar in its layout to the near perfect Dualshock controller.

The other areas of the controller, the D-Pad, the analog sticks, and the ‘Start’ and ‘Select’ buttons are nearly the same as before.

Vgescape Analysis of the Xbox 360 Controller

The Xbox 360 Controller is a near perfect iteration this time around.  The controller takes the best parts of last generation’s controllers, adds more comfort and wireless capabilities, and creates a near perfect final product.  It is unbelievable that the same company that has produced this controller also created the original humongous controller for Xbox back in 2001.
